Programme Description:

Public policy functions as a strategic plan for advancing society, influencing the laws, guidelines, and measures implemented by governments to tackle urgent problems and fulfil the requirements of their population. It involves a diverse range of decisions and acts made by policymakers, who are guided by many ideals. Public policy education is thus crucial in providing individuals with the necessary information and abilities to understand and navigate the intricate nature of contemporary government. It also enables them to make valuable contributions to the creation and execution of efficient public policies. By exploring the complexities of policy design, analysis, and evaluation, individuals can develop a profound comprehension of the fundamental mechanisms that drive social transformation and become more capable of addressing urgent challenges in their communities.

 

It is in this context that CPPR Academy is bringing out a Public Policy Summer BootCamp to introduce Public Policy to learners. Embark on a transformative journey into the world of public policy with our intensive 2-month Online Summer BootCamp. The bootcamp will provide participants with the unique opportunity to engage directly with experts, peers, and real-world case studies. The program is designed to foster deep learning through interactive sessions, expert interactions, and dedicated mentoring to ensure participants gain both theoretical insights and practical skills. The online format complements this by offering flexibility and convenience, enabling learners to delve into critical aspects of public policy from anywhere.

 

Designed for students and professionals alike, this course offers a comprehensive introduction to key concepts and practical tools essential for understanding and engaging in public policy. Through a series of interactive modules, participants will explore topics ranging from policy formulation and research design to data analysis and communication strategies, gaining the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of the policy landscape effectively.

What the BootCamp Offers:

In the BootCamp, participants will delve into the foundational principles and processes of public policy, gaining insights into the roles of stakeholders, institutions, and decision-makers. Through case studies and discussions, they will understand how policies are developed, implemented, and evaluated, setting the stage for deeper exploration into the methodologies and techniques used in policy research and analysis. Participants can interact with field experts on Public Policy in addition to the theoretical modules covered during the boot camp. All participants will be given an assignment to evaluate their understanding of the topic.

 

Shorlisted assignments will be selected and will be given personalised mentorship and support under expert policy Researchers to be developed into articles/op-eds/policy briefs and published in the CPPR website or externally.(*The selection and publishing of the materials will depend on the quality of the work and the decision of the evaluators will be final)

 

The Bootcamp Learners will get the exclusive opportunity to hear from the CPPR’s Chairman on how the think-tank business works in Public Policy and the journey of CPPR in Public Policy!

Participants will be divided into groups and given policy problems/ topics to research and they will be expected to present the findings.

A format will be given for researching and presenting the findings.

A panel of experts will evaluate the work and give suggestions.

Dr Reetika Syal

Reetika is a Senior Fellow with CPPR. She has a Ph.D in Political Science from Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, and is currently an Assistant Professor at Christ University (Deemed-to-be), in Bangalore. She has an extensive teaching and research experience of more than 14 years.

She has also worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Wageningen University & Research, The Netherlands and IIT- Delhi in 2018-19, on a project on  Civil Society Advocacy with her research focusing on State-Civil Society Relations in Disaster Management in India.

She is a part of the Lokniti Network in Delhi, and has been a part of various elections and democracy related studies, along with being a resource person for Lokniti’s Annual Summer School on Quantitative Data Analysis for more than a decade.

 

 

 

Meenuka Mathew

Meenuka Mathew is a Senior Research Fellow at the Jindal School of Government & Public Policy (JSGP). She has a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities from Aquinas University, Colombo, Sri Lanka and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), India.

Her research focuses on refugee economies, transnational migrants, public health, and policy design evaluation & communication. She has extensively travelled and worked for International non-governmental organizations based in the Philippines, France, and Uganda. In Sri Lanka, she has worked in areas of programme design & evaluation. Her professional experience is mainly in programme design, teaching & research.

At JSGP, she works on research on Gulf migrants of India, Refugee economies in South Asia and COVID-19 & the Indian middle class. She is currently the Asst. Editor of Jindal Journal of Public Policy. She also coordinates the NIHR Health Financing Fragmentation study in India in collaboration with Imperial College, London and JGU. She co-founded Policy Talks in 2019, which focuses on Public Policy Education for school students.

 

 

 

Dr D Dhanuraj

Dhanuraj is the Founder-Chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR), a non-profit, independent public policy think-tank based in Kochi, Kerala, India.

With two decades of experience in this sector, his interest areas lie at the intersection of research and policy analysis. He is a policy researcher and commentator on urbanisation, urban mobility & infrastructure, education, retail, health, livelihood, law, public expenditure, defense & security, geopolitics, and election analysis, and has collaborated with state, national and international governments, organisations and institutions on several key research studies and policy recommendations.

Well known in the international, national and state public policy space, he is a noted speaker, panellist and thought leader at several policy debates, discussions, panels, conferences and roundtables. He also writes extensively for several leading media publications, and contributes his expertise and opinion as a policy expert on news channels.

Currently, he is also the President of the Association of Public Policy Education in India (APPE), and was the Secretary General of Liberal Youth South Asia (LYSA) from 2008- 09 and Founder President and Trustee of Liberal Youth Forum of India (LYF) from 2008 to 2011.

 

 

 

Lakshmi Ramamurthy

Lakshmi Ramamurthy serves as an Honorary Trustee (Data Analytics & Corporate Management) at the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR). With over 18 years of experience, Lakshmi is an expert in data analytics across sectors including public transport, insurance, information technology, retail, and public policy. Her research and policy interests span urban mobility, gender equity, and education.

Lakshmi holds a postgraduate degree in Econometrics from the University of Madras in Chennai.

Currently, she leads a Data & Analytics team within a state government department in Australia, applying her expertise to develop data-driven solutions that address public sector challenges.

 

 

 

Dr Madhu Sivaraman

Madhu Sivaraman is a Research Scholar at CPPR and had earlier worked as the Centre Director (Research and Projects). He is a public policy professional and Consultant at DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GOI. He has been associated with CPPR for more than 10 years in a multi-disciplinary role engaging in projects spanning areas of transport, education, livelihood, dispute resolution, regulations and governance.

With a background in law, Madhu was instrumental in developing policy strategies for local and state governments and supporting key initiatives of CPPR. He was instrumental in setting up the ADR Centre, the dispute resolution centre of CPPR. He pursued a fully-funded master’s degree programme in Comparative Public Policy from the University of Edinburgh, UK under the Chevening FCO UK scholarship. He received the Edinburgh Award for Public Engagement for his work on digital education policies in Malawi, Africa while working for Turing Trust, UK.
